Could Your Pain Be Caused by a Dust Mite Allergy?

Pain is always a strong sensation, but unfortunately, it is not always an informative one. At some point, everyone has felt pain or irritation they couldn’t understand, but what is truly frustrating is to consult your doctors and receive treatment only for the pain to persist.

In these situations, there are many potential causes. We at Jivana Care would like to start providing you some reference points to help diagnose and treat these persistent pains. Today, let’s start with a lesser-known cause: dust mite allergy.

You’ve probably heard of dust mites: microscopic organisms that clean up the dead skin which humans naturally shed. They seek out human living spaces, making them nearly unavoidable. This is usually harmless unless you happen to be allergic to them. Dust mite allergy is particularly treacherous. It’s not seasonal, and because the mites are invisible, it’s not easy to recognize when you’re exposed to them.

Do you experience these symptoms chronically on a year-round basis?

  • Abdominal pain
  • Rashes
  • Swelling
  • Itching
  • Asthma
  • Sneezing

If so, you may be allergic to dust mites. If you live in the Bethesda, Silver Spring, or Rockville community, you can visit Jivana Care for a skin-prick-test (SPT). An SPT is used to diagnose your sensitivity to common allergens. Once we’ve identified the cause, we can prescribe treatment.

Dust mite allergy can be treated with normal, over-the-counter allergy medications. However, we’d also like to encourage you to ask us about Immunotherapy (see our previous entry on Immunotherapy and how it works). Immunotherapy’s beneficial effects can be felt particularly strongly in dust-mite allergies.

Give us a call at (301) 951-3606 to ask about diagnosing and treating dust mite allergies and any other chronic allergy.
